January training

I had planned a 2 hour torture roller ride, but after an hour and fifteen minutes I was trashed.

Ended the month with 525 miles, all on rollers with the exception of 83 road miles. Last day for a road ride was Jan 5.

Last years Jan mileage was 48 miles

Finally some sun

But it is 21 degrees, and on it’s way down to low single digits. At least the sun is helping clear the ice off the power lines before the wind comes tomorrow.

Last night there was talk of another big storm next week, but it sound like they are toning it down a bit. We need a break!

I should have come in and gotten a roller ride in, but I’ve been on them every day since last Friday. I’ll make tomorrow a torture day.

FSU2009

So what's up with letters and numbers on the bottom of Armstrong's bottom bracket area.

From Lance's twitter: Had ?'s about fsu2009. Florida state? Someone's initials? Or something else? It's personal to me, let's leave it at that. Thanks!

My guess- Fu****g Shut Up 2009

The winter that refuses to go away!

If my memory servers me correct (at my age that is a challenge) I believe the Farmer's Almanac has had this winter nailed.

We are under a winter storm warning thru tomorrow with a total of 5-9" of snow from last night thru tomorrow. This morning we woke up to about 1/2 inch. ODOTa nd the city said they were going to have a full crew out working on the roads last night. If that was what the full crew did for 1/2 to 1 inch, I wonder how bad the road will be tomorrow morning. The real storm is not supposed to get here until tonight. It took 45 minutes to drive in to work this morning, normally, it's 20 min max.

I will continue to look ahead. In six weeks we will be in Vegas, in 14 weeks... Hawaiian cruise!

And I did hear a forecast that was saying we would have nicer, and warmer, next week. I can only hope. We are deserving.

So. more basment time. I'm getting used to it, and I'm pleased with my conditioning and committment. I'm well ahead of last year so no real worries.

Staying committed

We finally got some sun and above freezing temps yesterday, but with the first real melting, the roads were pretty sloppy, so I was back to the basement for a 1 hour roller time trial.

I've been pleased with my dedication to the rollers! Last year, my basement training was limited and it sucked, meaning I was not race ready when racing season started. This year I have been dedicated and motivated and I'm pleased with my conditioning.

Today's forecast is for more sun and warmer temps, but I don't see myself getting out as I have too much to do. TOmorrow we go back to the cold (and single digit temps) and more snow for next week.

Over the weekend, we will make our reservations for a trip to Vegas! Won't be soon enough

What a week

Finally the weather is getting back to something more normal. Two nights with the lows 10 below or colder, with highs in the low single digits. We are now back to the 20’s, although the forecast for tomorrow night is low single digits.

But, it looks like I might even be able to get out of the basement and ride on the road this week.

It’s a three day weekend, which will be my last for a while.

With Obama’s inauguration, this is going to be a great week!

Ohio Races

The race calendars are now showing up.

One thing I have found intersting and cool, espcially since I'm not a big budget racer. The Ohio State Time Trial is going to have a Standard Catergory. No aero equipment will per permitted if you enter this category. No aerobars, No aero wheels, No aero helmets (tear drop style), Skinsuits will be permitted but go against the premise. Equipment use will be at the organizers discretion.

Going stir crazy

The weather had called for partly cloudy skies and temps in the low 30’s, which could have meant dry roads. But it didnt happen. Instead we had continued snow flurries.

And the weather is not going to get any better. Temps drop tomorrow and we have sub zero lows and sub teen highs forecasted from Wed thru Saturday. Needless to say, I am going stir crazy.

At least I’m motivated enough to get in some decent trainer time.

Back to business as usual

Well, it’s back to business as usual at work. Maybe even more so. I’ve been unbelievably busy. At least tomorrow is Friday!

I’ve been on the bike eight days this year, with most of it being in the basement thanks to the crappy weather, which sounds like it will not get better. Freezing rain tomorrow night, single digits next week. Ugh! Thing is, I’ve already gotten in more time than I did the entire month of Jan last year. A definite positive. And I’m getting acclimated to the rollers

Right now, I weight in at 181 which is about the same as last year. I would really like to see the 160’s in April. I’ve been tracking my diet and activities on www.fitday.com and after the first few days of not changing my eating habits with the exception of smaller portions and less junk, my diet, at this point, was WAY too much carbs. I’ve since made adjustments, and have decreased that carb count, mainly by giving up my morning bagel  and cream cheese for low fat soy milk and a scoop of whey protein. And I havent had any coffee since last weekend, and that hasnt been as bad as I expected. Instead of coffee, I’ve stuck with decaf green tea.

There is a speedskating open house this weekend at the Chiller. I plan on going out and giving it a try.

While I had hoped to find a spot on a hockey team, the next session starts next week and nothing has come up. I’m not that disappointed (maybe I can do some subs). I figured if it happened, great. If it didnt, well, it wasnt meant to be. I can still do drop ins and stick n pucks.

Gov. Richardson, please tell me it’s not true

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2009/01/04/richardson_withdraws_as_commer.html

I’ve had the  upmost respect for Bill Richardson since the days I was a New Mexico resident. While he was my choice for President, I knew he was not a contender. The media ordained a designated few as the front runners and Gov. Richardson was not one of them.

While I preferred the Governor as the Secretary of State, I do feel Secretary of Commerce was a good fix for him.

I was devastated with today’s news

Back to the basement

It was a foggy, drizzly day so I was back to the basement. I rode one hour on the rollers, and I have to admit, I was surprised and impressed with my perseverance.

Despite crashing off the diet wagon yesterday, I actually lost a pound.

Tomorrow’s weather sounds decent so I should be able to get out on the road. After that, it sounds like a cold and snowy week.

Sounds like a bathroom read

Great day for a ride

It was a bit cold, in the upper 20’s. But, it is a sunny day which is a rarity in Ohio in January. And no wind. I went out about 10AM and got in a 35 miler. It was great!

I got back in, flipped the wheel on the Draft, and rode fixed gear for the first time. It actually went a lot better than I expected.

Tomorrow the rain and clouds return, and it sounds like it will be a cold week.

I’ve rode every day this week, and since the 1st, I’ve lost two pounds. No more junk food and snacks in the house!
